    Bloody Mary Pickles

My husband loves Bloody Mary’s in the morning on the weekends or on vacation. Who doesn’t right??? He also loves pickles, so I thought…what would happen if you combined the two – Bloody Mary Pickles.

So, I went about trying some recipes for pickles to have with hamburgers, hot dogs…well just about anything that would have that same spicy flavor and let me tell you, these are delicious! You can add other ingredients to make them your own too. You can make them spicier by adding more hot sauce or horseradish or adding a slice of cooked bacon might give them some smoky flavor. The sky is the limit with these flavorful babies!

    Here is the basic recipe:

    • 3 small pickling cucumbers, cut lengthwise
    • 3 lemon rounds
    • 1/3 c. tomato juice
    • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
    • 2 tsp. prepared horseradish
    • 1/2 tsp. black peppercorns
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1 garlic clove, cut into thirds or minced
    • Dash of hot sauce
    • 1/4 c. vodka

Pack cucumbers, lemon rounds, and garlic into a glass jar.

In a small saucepan, medium heat, combine tomato juice, lemon juice, horseradish, peppercorns, salt, and hot sauce. Bring to boil, remove, and add vodka.

Pour over cucumbers. Let cool completely, then seal with lid and refrigerate until cool. These Bloody Mary Pickles are amazing and are sure to be the hit of your next party.

Water, Water, Water – What’s in Your Water?

I love my water!!! Most of us don’t drink enough water, sometimes for me I need more than water, more flavor, but don’t want the soda, or any of those packets or drops that you put in water. So I make my own infused water concoctions I make one about every three days. I make mine by the pitcher, it’s less expensive since I use fruit, herbs and vegetables. We all know that sometimes these infused waters can be a bit bitter, I use stevia drops to help sweeten up the water a bit, it works like a charm. I will be sharing some of my favorite recipes, please share with me your favorite infused water.

Say Goodbye to Sugar & Hello to Stevia!

SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR……..HELP Please throw away all the sugar substitutes and coffee creamers in your cabinets and start using Stevia. White is not right! There are many articles out there that you can research why white sugar is bad for you. Do your research and make small steps in cutting back or out altogether. You won’t regret it.

I made the switch last year when I was detoxing, it took some time to get used to the Stevia leaf but once I did I was hooked, it’s so much better for you and it comes in lot’s of flavors. Now I make all my ice coffee’s with my own flavors and it’s delicious.

I carry them in my purse so I can order ice tea unsweet at restaurants and make it sweet on my own, with out the white sugar or the packets of sugars on the left or the sugar filled coffee creamers. I even get my Dunkin with no sugar and make whatever flavor I want with my stevia. I use them in my coffee, ice tea, ice coffee, smoothies, protein shakes. You can get all the flavors on Amazon.

    Try it you’ll like it!

    Pear Tarts on the Grill

Goooooood morning from the woods in GA! Well, it looks like the guys had no mercy on my pear tart I made for dessert last night, in fact, it looks like they had some for breakfast too.

FYI, this is my new go to tart/pie/biscuit pan. It’s a Weber Grill Pan made out of cast iron, and it’s MARVELOUS. The crust was nice and brown and crispy, and the filling was my own I canned from GA pears I picked last fall.

Since I “can” because I can, I can apple, peach and pear pie filling from my trees at my Georgia home.  I also get apples from Elijah, GA, so I use my own pie filling when I am creating my tarts. I just use the Pillsbury Pie Crust in a box at any grocery store and put one of the crust on the bottom, 1 jar of my pie filling and one pie crust on top.  Use a fork to secure all edges and brush with Milk – yup Milk. My mom always used milk instead of egg wash, and I sprinkle sugar all over the top for a nice sweet, flaky crust.
